Newly Edited Week 4 Challenge 4

I hope you enjoy the fotobabble I created here. I read one of my previous posts. This was extremely fun to make, but it has been brought to my attention I only posted the code. So hopefully this works!

Week 7- Crazy Quokka!

Quokka

Quokka” by Australian Museum photo taken by Hans and Judy Beste © Australian Museum

When someone is looking at this photo, they may assume it is a rat or a guinea pig. However, it is an Australian marsupial. When I share this interesting mammal with others, they are quite confused. At first they may believe I stuttered, and I have even received a ‘bless you’ when I said this animal’s name. But it is, in fact, a real life animal. They were found on an island called “Rottenest” but are now only found near Perth, if the Australian bloggers know where this is! Even though I am not an Aussie I still find this animal fascinating. I found this information here.

Even though they may be adorable, they are not common. In fact, they are only found in certain places of Australia. They are about 20 inches tall and look similar to a rat. They have long tails and stand on their hind legs. Although they are in Australia, they will most likely be found in zoos. They are extremely adorable, but are decreasing in population. I found this information in the link previously listed.

The Quokka is extremely friendly. However, there are fights for dominance between males. It is a nocturnal mammal and searches for food at night. They are herbivores and typically eat plants native to Australia. Also, they climb up trees to find food! For their young, they regurgitate, similar to a bird. These animals have a fascinating lifestyle are are truly adorable. Many people have taken selfies on occurrence with them. This information was found here.

Week 6

The first blog I visited was Ellie from the United States.

http://emcclintock20.edublogs.org/

Here is my comment:

Dear Ellie,
I really enjoy your blog! I love how you commented on blogs from all over the world, and shared similarities or what you thought was interesting about their blogs. Hopefully I will see more of your posts in my future!

The second blog I visited was Hoow20. Although he never states where he is from, I enjoyed his sarcastic views on Halloween. http://hoow20.edublogs.org/author/hoow20/

Here is my comment:

Although I enjoy free candy, I am petrified of haunted houses. Actually, I began to cry because a clown popped out at me, and I am especially afraid of clowns. As you can guess, I ran as fast as possible with tears streaming down my face. This is exactly why I dislike Halloween. Too scary, in my opinion, but I definitely enjoyed reading about your interesting and fun filled Halloween!

The third blog I commented on was Farhiyam.

https://farhiyam.edublogs.org/2015/11/16/should-boys-and-girls-be-raised-differently/

Here was my comment:

Farhiyam,
I absolutely agree with you. It isn’t correct for girls to be raised thinking they are less than men. And although they have different views, they should be treated equally. This book sounds very interesting, and perhaps I will read it.
Best regards,
Lola

The fourth blog visited was Gisele’s from Australia.

http://giselew06.edublogs.org/2015/11/17/whats-in-my-lunchbox/#respond

Gisele,
Your descriptions of the delicious fruits made my mouth water! I love watermelon, especially and warm days here in California. What is your frozen mango yogurt like? Over here, it is rather r, but still tasty. However, that would not be available at school. Perhaps it would be available at a frozen yogurt chain called Menchies.

The fifth blog I commented on was Clove’s.

https://clove20.edublogs.org/2015/11/03/french-fries-and-burgers/#respond

Here is my comment:

Clove,
First of all, I adore your name. It is fantastic. Secondly, I never knew hamburgers were from Germany! I guess I learn something new every day. Visit me at :

The sixth blog I visited was Sarah’s.

https://sarahgjhs15.edublogs.org/

Here was my comment:

Dear Sarah,
I enjoy French Fries as well as Kashish. Quick question, do you prefer salty or regular French Fries? Ketchup or plain?
https://lcase4702.edublogs.org

My seventh blog I viewed was Jacob’s.

http://jacobems16.edublogs.org

Here was my comment:

Jacob,
This was so cool to experience another culture right in front of my eyes. I loved how you included the recipe, I might just have to try it! Anyways, would you recommend this to anyone, or to people who love steak. It just so happens I adore steak.
Best regards,
Lola

The eighth blog I looked at was Ava’s.

http://2290ava2015.edublogs.org

Here is my comment:

Ava,
I love the lay out of your blog. The color scheme is so positive looking and I love the font! Anyways, in America, we have a food called pigs in a blanket. They are miniature hot dogs surrounded by a puff pastry. They are delicious. Are these two foods similar, or are they different?

The ninth blog I visited was Caitlin’s.

http://bloggingwithcatie.edublogs.org/

Here is my comment:

Caitlin,
Lamingtons look fantastic. I am drooling right now! I have never been to Australia, but my mother has. She has had fair bread, and she thought it was odd yet weirdly tasty. The only food that reminds me of Lamingtons is Angel food cake, a sponge cake that can have anything in it from nuts to fruit to sprinkles. Have you ever heard of this?

Here is my comment

Victoria,
I love how the comment button was a skull and cross bones for Halloween! Anyways, I did a report on Pennsylvania for a fifth grade project. It was a very unique state with amazing history. Hopefully I will make it there one day and go to all of the locations you listed!

Week 5 Activity 2

We were required to comment on the Taco Tuesday post. Here is what I wrote:

Hi DND 2nd Graders,
First off, I love the idea of having a golden lunchbox! How creative and unique! At my school in the US, they provide us students with different options on different days. For example, on certain days, Pick Up Stix, an asian cuisine restaurant, is served while on others Fresh Brothers, a pizza restaurant, is served. However, many students bring their own lunch. They bring many different meals, from Mexican to Italian food. The US is extremely diverse, and this shows through lunches. Also, the snack shack is always open with the same options. The school just recently added miniature powdered doughnuts to the shack, and I am a huge fan! This shack also has slushies, juices, chips, gummy worms, and even rice krispy treats! Our school is also using special trash bins, such as one for liquids, food products, recyclables, and trash. Our cold lunches differ, however I can’t say I know them too well since I bring my own lunch.

Week 5 Activity 1

turkey-23435_640

In America, we celebrate the holiday Thanksgiving. On this holiday, we honor the first pilgrims who came to Plymouth in 1621 and shared their thanks to the Indians. This holiday is only celebrated in America, so of course it is a huge feast. On the dinner table is anything from cranberry sauce to mashed potatoes. However, the main food is the glorious Thanksgiving turkey. It may be fried, boiled, microwaved, oven roasted, or whatever anyone please. On the table may also be pumpkin pie, gravy, a casserole of sorts, corn, bread, and what ever else the heart desires. This day is most likely celebrated with family, or maybe just by ones’ self. Thanksgiving has no limits, but this is the night where people pig out and eat more than their stomachs can hold. Some people even prepare for Thanksgiving a week in advance.

Mary-Ellen:

http://maryellenw06.edublogs.org/2015/10/31/aussie-foods/#comment-37

Hello Mary- Ellen!
I love the video you posted, the Gummy Bear song used to be my favorite! Anyways, I have heard of vegemite before, and I have gotten mixed reviews. How is it in your opinion? Appareantly it is yeast, which doesn’t sound too good to me.
By the way, my name is Lola and I live in California.

Mr. Woods:

Hello Mr. Wood,
My name is Lola and I am from California. I enjoyed your presentation a lot! Is hangi a taste everyone would prefer, or is it for unique pallets only? Thank you for your wonderful presentation!

Claire,
First of all, I absolutely love your blog! Your font and header image are amazing! Quick question, what is a bush tucker? Out here in California we have nothing of the sort. It sounds new and inventive to me, but it may just be the usual over there. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Dear Neha,
My name is Lola and I live in California. Your story is so amazing! Your Gulab Jamaan sounds absolutely wonderful and I would love to try it some day. You said that your desserts are mostly sweet. Well, are there any spicy desserts? If so, what are they?

Huzzahians:

http://huzzah.edublogs.org

Hello Huzzahians,
I enjoy how your blog is one where it is shared with the whole class. I’ve been to Canada one time, and when I was here I went to Montreal and Victoria, and might I say, they had the best ice cream I have ever had. What exactly is poutine? I’ve seen it in videos online, but all I know is it contains cheese curds, if I am right.
Thank you,
Lola from California

Favorite Family Memory

IMG_5583

By far, my favorite memory with my family is when we went to Spain. It was an amazing experience that my family will never forget. My parents don’t want me posting a photo of them so enjoy this photo of the wonderful location instead! Once there, we took part in an extremely long hike that ended in this fantastic photo. I hope we will all get a chance to visit Spain again, as it was terrific.

A Deceased Star

One of my favorite stars, John Lennon, passed aways several years ago. He was a peace activist and wrote and sang in the Beatles. He was truly a talent and had a knack for lyrics. They were deep and meaningful and would bring people to tears. He wrote about world issues in his lyrics and somehow managed to keep it catchy. It is truly depressing he has left the world since he was such an amazing spirit.

Parent Questionaire

I am questioning my dad about his parents.

Lola: What are your parents names?

My Dad: Bob and Brenda.

Lola: When were they born?

My Dad: 1943 and 1945.

Lola: How did they meet?

My Dad: They met through a college seminar.

Lola: How many years have they been together?

My Dad: Fifty three.

Lola: What is their favorite type of food?

My Dad: Italian food.

Lola: Did they have ay siblings growing up?

My Dad: Yes. My mom had 12  brothers and sisters and my dad had one brother.

Lola: How tall are they?

My Dad: My dad is 6’3 and my mom is 5’0.

Lola: Were they born in the U.S?

My Dad: Yes.

Lola: What is their occupation?

My Dad: They own a bed and breakfast.

Lola: Finally, how did they shape you  into the person you are today?

My Dad: They taught me to work hard and be independent in life.

At the time my grandparents were growing up, the Cold War was going on.

Christmas Countdown Widget

There are several amazing widgets that can be used on Edublogs. However, I found the Christmas countdown to be the best, considering I am a huge Christmas fanatic. Everything about Christmas is magical to me. The spirit in the air, the wonderful feelings, and all of the decorations. As soon as Halloween ends there I am listening to “Silver Bells.” Speaking of which, Christmas music is my favorite! I wonder if it is possible to play Christmas music as soon as someone enters my blog. Perhaps this will be a sneak peak into my next widget!
